Premier Ice Hockey League

The Premier Ice Hockey League is New Zealand’s highest level club competition, and a development pathway to the join our national leagues.

The winners from each club earn the right to represent their club at the national finals weekend, where the best from around the country converge to prove who truly belongs at the top.

The PIHL is built for players ready for high-level competition, offering quality ice time. It supports emerging athletes pushing toward NZIHL or NZWIHL as well as current and former NZIHL/NZWIHL players looking to stay sharp, fit, and connected to high-performance hockey through structured, meaningful competition.

2026 Queenstown Division

The 2026 PIHL Championship will be hosted in Queenstown on May 1–3, welcoming teams from Dunedin, Canterbury, and Auckland.

Queenstown Season: March 19 – April 23 (Final: April 23)
Format: 6 games per team | 3 x 15-minute stop-clock periods
Game nights: Monday & Thursday evenings

Open to players born 2010 & older.

Registration

  • Drafted teams: 13 players + 1 goalie (no special requests)

  • 39 players & 3 goalies selected to ensure a high-level league

  • Cost: $245 per player/goalie

  • Deposit: $100 at registration

  • Registration closes Feb 28 at 5pm

  • Draft in person: Feb 28 at 6pm (location TBC)

  • Unselected players receive a full deposit refund

  • Remaining balance charged March 15
